Join Joelle for a fun and rewarding two-day sewing adventure as we make Sara Lawson’s Ninebark Backpack—a stylish and surprisingly spacious bag that’s as functional as it is beautiful!

This eye-catching backpack may look compact, but it features two vertical side-zipper pockets that add both flair and functionality. Inside, you'll find a convenient slip pocket in the lining, and the flap secures neatly with a magnetic snap. Adjustable straps make it comfortable to wear wherever your day takes you.

As an added creative twist, we’ll be incorporating a freestanding lace embroidery embellishment on the front flap—featured in OESD’s April 2025 Project Hub! Whether you're an embroidery enthusiast or simply curious, you'll love this optional customization that adds a personalized, polished touch.

No embroidery machine? No problem!
If you're not into machine embroidery, you're still more than welcome. Simply skip the embellishment step on Day One (when we cut our fabric and prepare materials), and join us on Day Two to assemble your gorgeous backpack.

This class is ideal for intermediate sewists or anyone with basic sewing experience who’s ready to level up their skills in bag making and machine embroidery.

Finished Size:

• 1 yard/metre of exterior fabric

• 1 yard/metre of lining fabric

  • Two 9” handbag zippers

  • 1/2” magnetic snap (regular style preferred over thin)

  • Two 1” metal sliders

• Optional for straps: 2-1/2 yards of 1” wide webbing
